In a surprising turn of events, a former employee of a major advertising agency, Dentsu, found solace and success in an unexpected place after leaving the corporate world. At the age of 55, Yoshimichi Asanuma took over his family’s liquor store, “Liquor Port Kuraya,” in Machida City, Tokyo, after retiring early and overcoming the loneliness that often accompanies such a transition.
Asanuma’s journey from the fast-paced world of advertising to the quiet and traditional business of selling alcohol was not without its challenges. However, he managed to expand the store’s sales and fulfill a dream he had harbored for 30 years.
Leaving behind the corporate culture of Dentsu, Asanuma found a sense of belonging and purpose in running the family business. His story serves as an inspiration to others who may be contemplating a similar career change or seeking fulfillment outside the confines of a traditional job.
Asanuma’s experience highlights the importance of following one’s passion and finding fulfillment in unexpected places. It goes to show that sometimes, the path to success and happiness may lead us away from the beaten track and into uncharted territory.
