Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Philippines is making waves in the tourism industry as it sets its sights on attracting more visitors from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. With a notable 10% increase in arrivals from the UAE and Saudi Arabia, the Philippines is positioning itself as the go-to destination in Asia.

Led by the Department of Tourism (DOT), the Philippine delegation has arrived with a clear goal in mind: to showcase the nation’s diverse offerings to potential visitors from the GCC countries. Chief Operating Officer Maria Margarita Montemayor Nograles, from the Tourism Promotions Board, highlighted the key interests of tourists from GCC countries, stating that they are primarily looking for beaches and customized wellness and relaxing experiences away from the city.

Secretary of Tourism, Christina Garcia Frasco, acknowledged the growing interest in international travel among citizens of GCC countries. She mentioned that there has been a significant 420% recovery in arrivals from the UAE since 2019, and an average increase of over 100% from all GCC countries. This surge in interest demonstrates the appeal of the Philippines as a destination that offers unforgettable experiences.

Jennifer Sanvictories, representing The Farm at San Benito at the Arabian Travel Market, emphasized the importance of catering to Arab tourists as a smart business move. With over 145 million Arab tourists in the Middle East and ASEAN region, there is a significant opportunity to attract them to the Philippines for transformative healing holidays, particularly at locations like San Benito. Sanvictories also noted the growing demand for Muslim-friendly destinations, highlighting the mutual benefits of cultural exchange.

The Philippine delegation at the Arabian Travel Market in the Dubai World Trade Center consists of 16 co-exhibitors, including hotels and tour operators. The event, running from May 6 to 9, 2024, aims to showcase the diverse tourism offerings of the Philippines and attract more visitors from the GCC countries.

With a focus on promoting beaches, wellness experiences, and cultural exchange, the Philippines is positioning itself as a top destination for tourists from the GCC countries. The efforts of the Philippine delegation at the Arabian Travel Market reflect a strategic approach to tapping into the growing interest in international travel among GCC citizens and establishing the country as a must-visit destination in Asia.
