The La Crosse Public Education Foundation celebrated its 10th annual Thank A Teacher Day this week as part of National Teacher Appreciation Week. The foundation made special visits to each school district in La Crosse to surprise teachers with treats and tokens of appreciation.

Nell Saunders-Scott, the foundation’s director, expressed gratitude for the hard work of educators across the school district, highlighting the importance of showing appreciation for their dedication. The foundation was able to afford food for teachers in all schools thanks to a grant from former teacher Carol Taebel.

District Superintendent Aaron Engel emphasized the significance of giving teachers the recognition they deserve, stating that public education is the foundation of democracy and teachers are the heart of the school community. North Woods Principal Garrett Fischer also expressed gratitude for the appreciation shown to his staff, acknowledging the great work they do every day to support students.

Saunders-Scott emphasized the essential role teachers play in the community, noting that they care for children with love, empathy, dedication, and professionalism. She highlighted the hard work teachers do every day to ensure the health and functioning of schools, making it all possible for students to thrive.

Overall, the event was a heartwarming display of gratitude and recognition for the educators who play a vital role in shaping the future generation.
