11th Annual Wheelchair Sports Festival Hosted by Triumph Foundation

The Triumph Foundation’s 11th Annual Wheelchair Festival took place at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex and was a two-day extravaganza filled with fun and excitement. The festival was open to both individuals with disabilities and able-bodied participants who could join in the activities using complementary wheelchairs.

Founder Andrew Skinner emphasized the all-inclusive nature of the event, stating, “It’s all-inclusive fun. It doesn’t matter if you have a disability or not; you get to play and get into the game.” Participants had the opportunity to engage in a wide range of activities including basketball, tennis, rugby, fencing, archery, scuba diving, music, football, and skateboarding.

One of the highlights of the festival was the football activities led by the head coach of the L.A. Chargers Wheelchair Football team. Participants learned the rules of football, practiced offense and defense, and even played a game.

While the festival was filled with laughter and enjoyment, it held a deeper significance for Skinner. He expressed, “You get to see people come to life. A lot of people struggle to find purpose and the Triumph Foundation really makes an extra effort to embrace folks no matter what challenges they may have faced. It shows them that there is a life worth living and that they can have joy and purpose.”

The Triumph Foundation aims to empower individuals with spinal cord injuries or disorders to overcome adversity and improve daily. The organization provides resources, hope, and support to paralyzed individuals, offering a sense of community and purpose.
