The 11th edition of the Universal Merchant Bank Ghana Tertiary Awards (UMB GTA) 2024 was officially launched in Accra on Wednesday, aiming to recognize and celebrate outstanding student achievements. The event kicked off with the opening of nominations for the 53 categories available for the awards scheme.
Nominations for the prestigious awards began on May 1 and will run until August 1 this year. This year, the UMB GTA has introduced new categories such as Best Student in Environmental Sustainability, Best Student in Tourism and Hospitality, and Best Student in Mental Health Advocacy.
Mr. Richmond Amofa-Sarpong, the Chief Executive Officer of UMB GTA, emphasized the importance of the award scheme in acknowledging students who have positively impacted society through their contributions. He highlighted the role of the awards in providing a platform for celebrating student achievements and fostering the exchange of ideas among institutions and students.
Since its inception in 2014, the UMB GTA has honored over 200 winners who have made significant contributions to their communities and the country at large. The CEO also mentioned that the main awards ceremony will take place in the first week of November 2024, ahead of the December election activities.
Mr. Amofa-Sarpong encouraged all tertiary students to submit their nominations for a chance to be recognized at this year’s ceremony and become the next UMB GTA queen. The categories for this year’s awards include GTA Student of the Year, Best Student in Community Development, Tech and Innovation, Civic Engagement, and many more, highlighting the diverse talents and achievements of Ghanaian students.
