This weekend in Dubai is set to be a sports lover’s paradise, with 12 various competitive and community sports events taking place across the city in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council (DSC).
The highlight of the weekend is the “Dubai Open Summer Football Academies Tournament”, the largest of its kind in the Middle East. Running until June 16th, the tournament features over 9000 male and female players from more than 90 nationalities, representing 501 teams. With more than 2000 matches scheduled, participants will compete in 16 age groups for boys and three age categories for girls.
Another major event is the volleyball competition of the Dubai Schools Games Tournament, which is the biggest of its kind in Dubai. The tournament, which concludes today, serves as a platform for scouting and developing sports talents before they move on to join clubs and potentially become Olympic champions. Over 8500 male and female students from 200 schools are participating in 23 different sports competitions.
On Thursday, May 9th, Dubai will host the Sports Industry Award Ceremony (SPIA) at Atlantis the Palm Hotel. The event will bring together leaders, decision-makers, and organizations to contribute to the sports development in the Middle East and North Africa. The SPIA recognizes achievements in the sports industry and rewards those who excel in various sports sectors.
The Hamdan Sports Complex will host the Development Swimming Championship as part of the UAE Swimming Cup series on May 11th. 620 male and female swimmers from 25 clubs and academies will compete in six age groups in various swimming disciplines. The Selion Swimming Championship will also take place at the complex on May 12th.
Other events happening in Dubai this weekend include the UAE Open Badminton Championship at the Indian Club, the 35th Dubai Duty Free Bowling Championship at the Dubai International Bowling Center, and the 33rd Al-Gaffal 60 ft Traditional Dhow Race in the Arabian Gulf Waters. Additionally, the Spence Community Running Race, Stars Artistic Gymnastics Championships, Alpine Ski Race, and Dubai Creek Striders Community Race will all take place on various dates throughout the weekend.
