Thirteen Indians Rescued from Illegal Work in Laos, Embassy Sends Them Home

Thirteen Indian nationals who were lured into illegal work in Laos have been rescued and are now being sent back home, the Indian embassy in Laos confirmed on Sunday. This comes after last month’s successful rescue and repatriation of 17 Indian workers from the Southeast Asian country.

The embassy stated, “In our continued work to ensure the safety and well-being of Indians as a matter of top priority, Embassy successfully rescues and repatriates 13 Indians, including 7 Odiya workers from a wood factory in Attapeu province and 6 Indian youth from Golden Triangle SEZ, Bokeo province of Laos.”

The Indian embassy has now rescued a total of 428 Indians from Laos and expressed gratitude to the Lao authorities for their cooperation in these efforts.

The embassy also issued a warning to Indian nationals seeking employment in Laos to be cautious and avoid falling for fake or illegal job offers. They specifically mentioned the risks associated with cyber scams and urged individuals to verify the authenticity of job opportunities before accepting any offers.

The advisory highlighted instances where Indian nationals were lured into employment through Thailand for positions like ‘Digital Sales and Marketing Executives’ or ‘Customer Support Service’ by dubious companies involved in call-center scams and cryptocurrency fraud in Laos.

The embassy emphasized the importance of conducting thorough background checks on prospective employers to prevent falling victim to human traffickers promising lucrative job opportunities in Southeast Asian countries like Laos and Cambodia.
