165 employees, including those in Denver, laid off by Meow Wolf

Meow Wolf, the popular arts and entertainment company known for its immersive and interactive installations, is facing a major shakeup as it announces layoffs affecting 165 employees company-wide. This news comes as Meow Wolf continues to expand with plans for a new location in Texas.

CEO Jose Tolosa revealed in an internal memo that the layoffs will include 111 employees across the company’s exhibitions and corporate team, as well as 54 bargaining unit positions at the Las Vegas Omega Mart location. While the exact number of affected employees in Denver was not disclosed, the company stated that the actions are aimed at reducing expenses by 10%.

Meow Wolf, based in Santa Fe, has experienced rapid growth in recent years with multiple locations in Las Vegas, Denver, and upcoming markets. The company is currently in negotiations with the employee union in Las Vegas, although Denver employees already have a collective bargaining agreement in place.

Tolosa emphasized that the layoffs are necessary for the company to sustain its business and support its current growth trajectory. Meow Wolf is committed to providing support for laid-off employees, including severance packages, extended healthcare coverage, and career transition services.

This announcement comes four years after Meow Wolf previously laid off 201 employees due to COVID-19-related challenges.
