2024 Cannes Directors’ Fortnight Lineup Unveiled in Entertainment News

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, known for its avant-garde and thought-provoking cinema, has unveiled its lineup for the upcoming 2024 festival. Organized by the French Directors’ Guild, this independent section runs concurrently with the main Cannes festival.

The 2024 Directors’ Fortnight will open with ‘This Life of Mine,’ the final film by the late French director Sophie Fillieres, a touching drama starring Agnes Jaoui. The lineup includes four US titles, such as ‘Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point’ directed by Tyler Taormina, featuring a stellar cast led by Michael Cera and Elsie Fisher.

‘Good One,’ directed by India Donaldson, explores the journey of a young queer woman on a camping trip, while ‘Eephus’ marks Carson Lund’s directorial debut, depicting the final game of a small-town baseball team. Veteran director Patricia Mazuy will present ‘Visiting Hours,’ starring Isabelle Huppert and Hafsia Herzi.

The Directors’ Fortnight, established in 1969 after the disruptions that led to the closure of the Cannes Film Festival in 1968, has been a platform for innovative filmmaking. For the first time, the festival will introduce an audience award named after the late Belgian director Chantal Akerman.

The 2024 edition will conclude with Jean-Christophe Meurisse’s dark comedy ‘Plastic Guns.’ Running from May 15 to May 25, the festival will showcase a diverse range of feature films, special screenings, and short films. It promises to be a celebration of daring and boundary-pushing cinema.
