Blair County Sports Hall of Fame Celebrates 20th Induction Dinner

The Blair County Sports Hall of Fame celebrated its 20th induction dinner on Saturday night at the Blair County Convention Center, honoring five new inductees for their outstanding athletic achievements. Mark Moschella, Alli Williams, Rachel Gehret, Artie Fink Jr., and Tom Turchetta were all recognized for their contributions to the world of sports.

Each inductee took the opportunity to express their gratitude to the family members, friends, teammates, and coaches who supported them throughout their careers. They also spoke fondly of the community that had nurtured and supported them along the way.

Rachel Gehret, a former three-sport athlete at Altoona Area High School and All-American in track and field at the University of Louisville, emphasized the importance of raising her children in the same positive atmosphere she experienced growing up.

Tom Turchetta, a former Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School athlete and successful football coach, praised the community for embracing the event and spoke of the valuable lessons he learned about hard work and teamwork in Altoona.

Artie Fink Jr., a bowling and golf standout, became emotional as he thanked his family and friends for their unwavering support throughout his career. He highlighted the impact of his parents and the local golfing community on his success.

The induction ceremony was hosted by Bob Pompeani, who paid tribute to his late colleague Stan Savran and provided some light-hearted moments to balance the emotional speeches. The event also recognized the achievements of the 2022 Hollidaysburg Little League team and honored local soccer icon Jim Fee with the Community Service Award.

Overall, the 20th induction dinner of the Blair County Sports Hall of Fame was a night filled with gratitude, emotion, and celebration of the rich athletic history of the community.
