57-Year-Old Canadian TV Sports Anchor

Darren Dutchyshen, the beloved television sports anchor with Canada’s The Sports Network, has passed away at the age of 57. Known for his sharp wit and humor, Dutchyshen had been the host of TSN’s Sportscentre show since 1995.

The Dutchyshen family released a statement saying that he passed away surrounded by his loved ones, maintaining his sense of humor until the end. TSN has not disclosed the cause or location of his death, but Dutchyshen had revealed his battle with prostate cancer in 2021, which led to a reduction in his on-air duties.

Stewart Johnston, senior vice president of sales & sports at Bell Media, TSN’s parent company, paid tribute to Dutchyshen as a legend of Canadian sports broadcasting and a great teammate. He described Dutchyshen as a larger-than-life personality with an incredible sense of humor that connected easily with viewers.

Dutchyshen’s career at TSN spanned nearly three decades, starting as a host of weekend editions of SportsDesk and CFL Live before becoming a fixture on Sportscentre. He also hosted Olympic Prime Time during the London 2012 and Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games.

Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Dutchyshen began his career as a sportscaster in Saskatoon and later worked in Dauphin, Manitoba, and Edmonton. TSN plans to air a TV tribute in honor of Dutchyshen on Thursday evening, celebrating his contributions to sports broadcasting in Canada.
