Martin Kemp, the former Spandau Ballet performer, has opened up about his battle with two benign brain tumors in his 30s, revealing his fears that he may only have “ten years to live.” In a candid conversation on the podcast he co-hosts with his son Roman Kemp, titled ‘Death’, Martin shared his thoughts on mortality.
“I’ll be really honest with you, 10 years,” Martin said when asked about his life expectancy. Reflecting on his health scare at the age of 34, he admitted, “I spent two years of my life thinking I was going to die.” Despite the uncertainty, Martin expressed gratitude for every day he has lived since then, considering it a bonus.
In 2014, Martin disclosed on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories that his wife, Shirlie, had urged him to seek medical attention after noticing a mass on his head. The diagnosis of two benign tumors led to surgery and radiotherapy, but Martin now manages epilepsy as a side effect of the treatment.
Despite the challenges he has faced, Martin remains positive and appreciative of the life he has lived. He recently showed support for the Princess of Wales after she revealed her own cancer diagnosis, emphasizing the importance of family and love in difficult times.
As Martin continues to navigate his health journey, he serves as an inspiration for many facing similar struggles, reminding everyone to cherish each moment and find joy in the present.
