Reading Time: < 1 minute

Renowned filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is all set to mesmerize audiences with his upcoming period drama series, “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.” Known for his extravagant productions, Bhansali’s latest project explores the lives of courtesans in Lahore’s red-light district during pre-independence India. The star-studded cast includes Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Richa Chadha, promising a visual treat for viewers in the streaming world.

What sets “Heeramandi” apart is the magnificent set created for the series. It took 700 craftsmen a whopping seven months to bring Bhansali’s vision to life on a three-acre set at Mumbai’s Film City. The elaborate set, touted as Bhansali’s largest yet, showcases Mallikajaan’s royal palace in breathtaking detail, serving as a character in itself that enriches the storytelling experience.

Bhansali’s attention to detail and artistry is evident in every aspect of the set design, from Mughal miniature paintings to intricately crafted wooden doors. The filmmaker’s dedication to authenticity and aesthetic brilliance shines through, creating a visually stunning backdrop for the narrative.

In a recent interview with Architectural Digest, Bhansali expressed his pursuit of excellence in every aspect of his work. Drawing inspiration from legendary filmmakers like Satyajit Ray and Kamal Amrohi, “Heeramandi” is not just a series but a tribute to cinematic mastery and the craftsmanship that elevates storytelling on screen.

With a vision that has been brewing for nearly two decades, Bhansali’s collaboration with a talented cast and co-director Mitakshara Kumar is set to captivate audiences when “Heeramandi” premieres on Netflix on May 1. Get ready to be transported to a world of opulence, drama, and intrigue like never before.
