Sonja Christopher, the first person ever voted off the show “Survivor,” has passed away at the age of 87. The sad news was announced by current “Survivor” contestant Liz Wilcox, who shared a heartfelt message on Twitter. Wilcox revealed that she had the pleasure of meeting Sonja over Christmas and shared a photo of the two talking on FaceTime.
Sonja competed on “Survivor: Borneo” in 2000 and, despite getting along well with her teammates, was voted off the island after a series of missteps led to her team losing in the first week. This made her the first person ever to be eliminated from the show.
Known for playing her ukulele on the show, Sonja appeared to remember her time on “Survivor” fondly, using the platform to raise money for causes she believed in. In a statement, Wilcox asked that instead of sending flowers, donations be made to various organizations in Sonja’s memory.
Sonja’s appearance on the show was historic, and many still remember her for her spirit and love for the game. She will be dearly missed by fans and fellow contestants alike. Rest in peace, Sonja Christopher.
