A 92-year-old South Carolina woman, affectionately known as “Bumma,” has found a hilarious way to deal with relentless scam callers who try to swindle her out of her money. Instead of falling victim to their schemes, Bumma decided to turn the tables on them by engaging in comedic banter that leaves them flustered and ultimately hanging up the phone.
In a series of videos captured by her granddaughter, Cheyenne Toney, Bumma can be seen playfully toying with the scammers, asking them absurd questions and making outrageous claims to throw them off their game. From pretending she’s about to be raptured by Jesus to feigning hysterics over a fake family emergency, Bumma’s tactics are as entertaining as they are effective.
Despite the lighthearted nature of Bumma’s interactions with the scammers, the underlying issue of elderly people falling victim to scams is a serious concern. According to the Federal Trade Commission, nearly 70,000 people were conned out of $1.3 billion in 2022 alone, with romance scams being a common tactic used by fraudsters.
While Bumma may have found a way to outsmart the scammers, it serves as a reminder for everyone to be vigilant and cautious when dealing with unsolicited calls or messages. And in the meantime, Bumma’s comedic antics continue to provide entertainment for her family and a good laugh for all who watch her videos.
