The Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame recently inducted the iconic Masters swimmer Bunny Cederlund, who was a true inspiration to all who knew her. Despite her passing in 2011 at the age of 89, Cederlund’s legacy lives on through her remarkable achievements in the world of swimming.
Cederlund, a former world-class swimmer in her youth, returned to competition in the late 1980s as a member of the Florida Aquatic Combined Team. She was known for her exceptional talent and dedication to the sport, earning numerous accolades throughout her career.
During her time in Masters swimming, Cederlund achieved an impressive 234 individual Top 10 swims and 14 relay Top 10 listings. She was recognized as an All-American 13 times and held four Masters World Records in various backstroke events.
Despite facing challenges such as missing out on the opportunity to compete in the 1940 Olympics due to World War II, Cederlund never lost her passion for swimming. She continued to excel in the sport well into her later years, setting records and inspiring others with her determination and perseverance.
Cederlund’s daughter shared that at the time of her passing, she was already planning her strategy to win the 2011 Nationals in Auburn, Alabama, showcasing her unwavering commitment to excellence.
