Independent presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr made headlines on Monday with his claim that he was approached by Donald Trump’s “emissaries” to be the former president’s running mate. Kennedy, known for his controversial views on Covid-19 and other conspiracy theories, said he turned down the offer, suggesting that Trump felt threatened by him.

The alleged offer came after a series of attacks on Kennedy by Trump and his supporters, including the launch of a website calling him a “radical liberal” and a “radical f***ing Kennedy”. Kennedy took to social media to share his response to the offer, stating that he is firmly against Trump and believes Biden cannot win the upcoming election.

However, a top aide of Trump quickly disputed Kennedy’s claim, stating that he would never be approached to join the ticket as vice president. Chris LaCivita, Trump’s co-campaign manager, called Kennedy a “leftie loonie” and dismissed the idea of him being considered for the role.

Trump himself has been vocal about his opinions on Kennedy, praising him for some qualities but criticizing his support for the “Green New Scam”. Despite this, Trump expressed that he believes Kennedy would be a better candidate than Biden, suggesting that he would take away votes from the current president.

The back-and-forth between Kennedy and Trump highlights the ongoing tensions within the political landscape as the 2024 election approaches. Kennedy’s claims have sparked speculation and debate among supporters and critics alike.
