WIU Art and Design to Host Inaugural First Wednesday Event on April 3

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Western Illinois University’s Department of Art and Design is gearing up to host its first “First Wednesday” event on April 3 from 7-9 p.m. The event will take place in Garwood Hall and the Heating Plant Annex and is open and free to the public, with the only requirement being that children 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

The event will feature a variety of creative, hands-on activities for visitors to participate in. In Garwood Hall, attendees can try their hand at cyanotypes, paper sculpture, bird drawings, and surrealist collage. Over at the Heating Plant Annex, there will be opportunities to create aluminum flowers and butterflies, as well as wheel mandalas.

In addition to the hands-on activities, the Student Art Gallery will be open for guests to view the Art Education Exhibition by Art Education students in the Gallery, Garwood 35.

It’s important to note that the Garwood Hall elevator is currently out of order, so attendees will need to be prepared to climb stairs to participate in the activities.

For more information on this monthly program, interested individuals can contact Tim Waldrop at TD-Waldrop@wiu.edu or the WIU Department of Art and Design at (309) 298-1549.
