The Mitchell boys tennis team faced off against Huron in a thrilling rematch at Hitchcock Park on Friday, with the Kernels narrowly edging out the Tigers 5-4. The Kernels had previously dominated the Tigers with an 8-1 victory on April 13, but this time around, the competition was much tighter.

Despite splitting the singles matchups against Huron, Mitchell managed to secure the win by winning two of the three doubles competitions. Standout performances came from Luke Jerke, who swept his opponent in No. 2 singles, and Matthew Mauszycki and Levi Loken, who clinched a victory in Flight 2 doubles. Each of Mitchell’s five match victories against Huron came in straight sets, showcasing their dominance on the court.

Huron put up a strong fight, with Dah Christ Moo, Hser N Wah, and Maner Htoo securing wins for the Tigers. However, Mitchell’s overall performance in both singles and doubles play ultimately secured the victory for the Kernels.

Following their success against Huron, Mitchell went on to sweep Madison 9-0, with all nine wins coming in two-set matches. The Kernels’ impressive performance sets them up for a challenging triangular against Sioux Falls Washington and Aberdeen Central on Monday in Sioux Falls. With a record of 11-3 (5-1 ESD), the Kernels are poised to continue their winning streak in the upcoming matches.
