Indonesia’s president-elect, Prabowo Subianto, made a powerful statement on Wednesday as he vowed to fight for all Indonesians and called for unity among political elites to move the country forward. With his landslide victory in the Feb. 14 election, Prabowo emphasized the importance of working together for the common good.

During a ceremony confirming his win, Prabowo expressed his commitment to represent all Indonesians, including those who did not vote for him. He stressed the need for political elites to set aside their differences and collaborate for the betterment of the nation.

Backed by the popular incumbent Joko Widodo, Prabowo is now focused on broadening his coalition in the new parliament. He is engaging in discussions with parties that supported his election rivals to strengthen his parliamentary clout.

“I will prove that I will fight for all Indonesians,” Prabowo declared. “If Indonesia wants to thrive and become prosperous, all elites must work together.”

The confirmation of Prabowo’s victory comes after the Constitutional Court rejected challenges from losing candidates seeking a re-run of the election. In his speech, Prabowo also pledged to tackle poverty and corruption, promising improvements for all Indonesians.

As he aims to expand his coalition to secure a majority in parliament, Prabowo’s defense minister allies have indicated his determination to achieve this goal. With a vision for a united and prosperous Indonesia, Prabowo emphasized the importance of a free press as a cornerstone of democracy.
