The Ellsworth Panthers boys’ tennis team faced tough competition this week, with matches against Osceola Chieftains and Lakeland Union resulting in losses. Despite the setbacks, the team is optimistic about the progress they are making this season.

Head Coach Beth Friedrichsen expressed her satisfaction with the turnout this year, as the team has 12 boys participating, with only three having previous tennis experience. The team is grateful for the leadership of more experienced players like Lander Levers, Carter Price, and Jacob Molter, who are guiding the new players through the season.

In a standout moment for the Panthers, rookie player Adan Benitez Mendez secured the team’s first win of the season against Osceola. Mendez fought back after an initial loss to claim victory in his second-ever tennis match, showcasing the team’s potential for growth and success.

Looking ahead, Coach Friedrichsen is excited about the upcoming matches and opportunities for the team to improve. With the conference tournament approaching in May, the Panthers are focused on honing their skills and working towards their goals.

Meanwhile, the River Falls Wildcats had a busy week of matches, including a tournament at De Pere High School where they finished 1-5. Despite the mixed results, Head Coach Joe Young is pleased with the team’s competitiveness and is optimistic about their potential for success this season.

With a roster that includes experienced seniors and promising underclassmen, the Wildcats are aiming to make their mark in the conference. As they continue their season with upcoming matches, the team is focused on developing their skills and striving for excellence on the court.
