Rafael Nadal, the 14-time champion at Roland Garros, expressed uncertainty about his participation in the upcoming French Open in June. After a comfortable win in the first round of the Madrid Open, Nadal revealed that he is currently only able to play at “40 per cent” of his full capacity.

In his match against American teenager Darwin Blanch, Nadal cruised to a 6-1 6-0 victory, citing that he didn’t have to test his body much due to his opponent’s mistakes. Despite his win, Nadal acknowledged that he is unable to give his 100 per cent every day, unlike in the past when he could consistently perform at his peak.

The 37-year-old Spaniard, who recently returned from injury, emphasized the importance of gradually increasing his performance levels to reach his full potential. With his sights set on the French Open, Nadal is determined to regain his form and fitness for what could be his final appearance at Roland Garros.

Having undergone hip surgery last summer, Nadal is aware of the challenges posed by his age and previous injuries. However, he remains optimistic about his comeback and is focused on exploring his capabilities in the coming weeks.

Tennis fans can catch Nadal in action at the Mutua Madrid Open, exclusively live on Sky Sports Tennis. As Nadal continues his journey to reclaim his top form, spectators can witness his determination and resilience on the court.
