Andrew Galperin’s journey to recovery at Back2Basics Outdoor Adventure Recovery in Flagstaff is nothing short of inspiring. Nearly six months into the program, Galperin has transformed both physically and mentally, thanks to the unique approach of the program.
Struggling with substance abuse for years, Galperin found himself out of shape and unable to complete the outdoor excursions that are a core part of the B2B program. However, with determination and support from the program, he is now conquering challenging hikes and outdoor activities with ease.
For Galperin, the recent hike to Gold Strike Hot Springs was a significant milestone. Reflecting on his progress, he shared, “When I first came to B2B, every hike was a challenge. Now, completing that hike and soaking in the hot springs felt like a major accomplishment.”
Galperin’s path to sobriety has been a long and challenging one, marked by personal loss and struggles. However, the emphasis on outdoor activities at B2B resonated with him, reminding him of the outdoor adventures he shared with his late father.
Unlike his previous stint in recovery, Galperin found the B2B program to be more practical and relatable. The focus on basic life skills, coupled with the support of fellow residents, helped him make significant strides in his recovery journey.
As he nears the end of the program, Galperin is already giving back by leading group sessions and sharing his experiences with others. With hopes of becoming an Outdoor Guide for the program, he is determined to help others find their path to sobriety and wellness.
Galperin’s story is a testament to the transformative power of outdoor adventure and community support in the recovery process. His journey serves as an inspiration to others struggling with addiction, showing that with dedication and the right resources, a fulfilling life in sobriety is possible.
