Dozens of friends and family members gathered at Peace and Friendship Park on Sunday to honor the memory of 16-year-old Ahmad Al Marrach, who tragically lost his life outside the Halifax Shopping Centre earlier in the week. The community came together for a vigil to pay their respects to the young teen.

Nooman Hussain, a close friend of Al Marrach, spoke to the crowd, expressing his disbelief and sorrow over the loss of his best friend. He described Al Marrach as a kind and generous person who was always there for him when he needed support. The two friends had plans to visit a nearby sports facility on the day of the incident.

Rana Zaman, a community advocate, shared a heartfelt message from Al Marrach’s parents, who were present at the vigil. They expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from the community and emphasized their desire for justice for their son.

Al Marrach was known for his gentle nature and his love for all living creatures, including feeding birds and pigeons outside his home. He had plans to join a lacrosse team and was always willing to help his mother with household chores.

Two 14-year-olds have been charged with second-degree murder in connection with Al Marrach’s death. The suspects appeared in court, where a bail hearing was scheduled for May 13. The community continues to rally around Al Marrach’s family, with a GoFundMe campaign raising over $60,000 to support them during this difficult time.
