Scotland’s Most Outstanding Workplaces Recognized at BCO Awards

Scotland’s most outstanding workplaces have been celebrated at the British Council for Offices’ Awards, with six office buildings across the country receiving top honors. The annual Scottish Awards Lunch, held at the Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow, recognized projects that showcase excellence in office design, fit-out, operation, and sustainability.

The winners of this year’s competition in Scotland have been commended for their commitment to setting new sustainability benchmarks and prioritizing the needs of occupiers and local communities in each development. The awards highlight the best practices in responding to the sector’s changing environmental, social, and governance needs.

Among the winners are The National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) in Renfrew, which received awards for both ‘Corporate Workplace’ and ESG. The institute, designed by HLM Architects, has set a new standard in environmental and energy achievements, earning BREEAM ‘outstanding’ and attracting global manufacturers while fostering collaboration between small and large organizations.

1 New Park Square in Edinburgh, designed by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, was recognized for Best Commercial Workplace for its world-class arrival experience and attention to detail throughout the building. Deloitte in Edinburgh, designed by Perkins & Will, received the award for Best Fit Out of Workplace for creating an inclusive and sustainable workspace.

Other winners include Statkraft at the Garment Factory in Glasgow for Projects Up to 2,500 m2 and Eastworks in Glasgow for Best Refurbished/Recycled Project. These projects have been praised for their innovative design, sustainability efforts, and community engagement.

The Scottish winners will now compete for the BCO National Awards in October 2024. The awards, sponsored by ISG, AECOM, Troup Bywaters + Anders, and Ryden, recognize the best in office development and design. Gillian Stewart, Chair of the BCO in Scotland, and Donald Reid, Chair of the Scottish Judging Panel, praised this year’s winners for delivering exciting, future-proofed, and sustainable offices to the Scottish market.
