LOS ANGELES – Britney Spears and her father Jamie Spears have reached a settlement in the court conservatorship that has controlled her life and finances for nearly 14 years, avoiding a potentially lengthy and contentious trial.
The settlement, approved by a judge on Friday, comes after Britney Spears was freed from the conservatorship in November 2021 following a public outcry with the #FreeBritney movement. The lingering issues, including final payments to attorneys and allegations of financial malfeasance and surveillance, will now be resolved with the settlement.
Britney Spears’ attorney, Mathew Rosengart, stated that the settlement marks the completion of her wish for freedom, allowing her to move on from legal proceedings and court involvement. The trial, which was set to begin next month, has been averted with the agreement.
Jamie Spears’ attorney, Alex Weingarten, emphasized that Jamie has nothing to hide and would be willing to disclose all aspects of the conservatorship to the public. In her memoir, Britney Spears had expressed concerns about her father’s focus on money.
Despite the end of the conservatorship, Britney Spears’ personal life remains in the spotlight as she recently filed for divorce from her husband Sam Asghari. She has also stated her intention to stay away from the music industry, despite occasional collaborations.
The terms of the settlement were not disclosed, but both parties seem to be moving forward from the legal battles that have dominated Britney Spears’ life for over a decade.
