Putin’s bold display of power: Showcases captured American and British tanks in Moscow | Global News

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Vladimir Putin’s brazen display of captured American and British tanks in Moscow has sparked controversy and raised tensions in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The Russian president showcased these vehicles, including the British Saxon armoured personnel carrier, as a symbol of Russian military prowess and a declaration of victory.

The tanks, adorned with red banners proclaiming “Our victory is inevitable,” were part of a month-long exhibition in Moscow. Among the captured vehicles were an American Bradley tank, a Swedish CV90, and a French-made AMX-10RC armoured fighting vehicle, all seized during the conflict in Ukraine.

Putin’s exhibition coincides with Moscow’s Red Square Victory Day Parade on May 9, an annual event commemorating Russia’s victory over Nazi Germany in World War Two. The display of captured tanks, some with British and US flags, is seen as a glorification of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and a provocative gesture towards Western powers.

Ukraine has condemned Russia’s narrative, viewing it as an attempt to justify aggression. Despite facing challenges and losses in Ukraine, Russia has been replenishing its military reserves and increasing defense spending.

In a separate incident, militants attacked a police checkpoint in Russia’s North Caucasus region, resulting in the death of two officers and injuries to four others. This attack highlights the ongoing security concerns in the region.

As tensions escalate and the conflict in Ukraine continues, Putin’s bold display of captured tanks serves as a stark reminder of the volatile situation in the region and the ongoing power struggle between Russia and Western powers.
