Sam’s Club is revolutionizing the shopping experience with its new receipt verification technology, now available at approximately 20% of its stores. This cutting-edge technology utilizes computer vision and artificial intelligence to streamline the checkout process, allowing for faster and more efficient exits for shoppers.
According to a press release from the Walmart-owned warehouse club, the new technology has already shown promising results, with all members leaving the store 23% faster. Sam’s Club is leading the way as the first retailer to implement this technology on such a large scale, with plans to roll it out to all 600 of its locations by the end of 2024.
The receipt verification technology builds upon Sam’s Club’s existing Scan & Go technology, which enables shoppers to scan products with their smartphones and skip traditional checkout lines. Now, after completing payment, the new technology captures images of shoppers’ carts and verifies payment for all items within the basket.
This innovation comes at a time of rapid change in the grocery industry, with Amazon recently announcing a shift away from its “Just Walk Out” technology. Meanwhile, German discount grocer Aldi is also exploring checkout-free technology through a pilot project with tech company Grabango.
As Sam’s Club continues to lead the way in technological advancements, shoppers can look forward to a more seamless and efficient shopping experience at their local warehouse club.
