BAYONNE, N.J. (April 30, 2023) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women’s tennis team continued their impressive winning streak by shutting out #4 Arcadia 5-0 in the MAC Freedom semifinals. Sophomore Stephanie Untermeyer and first-year Alix Dry led the charge with two victories each, propelling the Ducks to their ninth consecutive win.
With a record of 12-5, the Ducks are on their longest winning streak of the season and will now compete for their third-straight MAC Freedom crown on Saturday. Stevens has dominated the conference, not losing to a conference opponent since the 2022 championship match against Wilkes. The team has a perfect 5-0 record against Arcadia and won the two matches on aggregate 13-1 this year. Arcadia finishes the season with an 8-7 record.
Stevens took a commanding 3-0 lead after winning all three doubles matches convincingly. The duo of Untermeyer and Dry secured an 8-1 victory on the first line, while Isabella Dona and Julianna Gomez also won 8-1 on line three. Polina Odintseva and Lorena Piegas continued their successful partnership with an 8-3 win on line two.
Needing just two more points to secure the victory, Dry and Untermeyer delivered with dominant 6-1, 6-0 victories in their singles matches. The Ducks’ impressive performance sets them up for a thrilling championship match on Saturday at Braddock Park in North Bergen, N.J., where they will face either #3 Lebanon Valley or #2 Misericordia. The stage is set for an exciting showdown as Stevens looks to add another MAC Freedom title to their collection.
