The Aitkin Gobblers had a successful day on the softball field as they swept the Crosby-Ironton Rangers in a Mid-State Conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 30. In Game One, pitcher Kendall Ratz led the Gobblers to a 7-4 victory, striking out nine batters and allowing only four runs on eight hits. Abby Palm and Haley Shereck had standout performances, with Palm going 2-3 with a double, run, and an RBI, and Shereck doubling, scoring two runs, and driving in a run.
The Gobblers continued their winning streak in Game Two with a 10-5 victory. Palm once again made an impact, finishing 2-4 with a run and an RBI, while Tahlia Hasskamp drove in two runs. The Gobblers’ dominance on the field was evident as they improved their conference record to 4-0 and their overall record to 5-0.
In other softball action, the Pequot Lakes Patriots secured an 8-7 Granite Ridge Conference win over the Mora Mustangs in eight innings. Rian Zutter’s game-winning RBI double sealed the victory, and pitcher Georgia James struck out four to earn the win.
Meanwhile, the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines cruised to a 10-0 Park Region Conference victory over the Ottertail Central Bulldogs, with Lily Parker leading the offense with three RBIs. The Pillager Huskies, unfortunately, suffered a doubleheader sweep against Parkers Prairie, with Lauren Anderson standing out with three hits and four RBIs across both games.
Overall, it was a day filled with exciting softball action and impressive performances on the field.
