The Superior Central girls softball team is gearing up for the 2024 season with high hopes and a mix of familiar and fresh faces on the roster. Last season, the Cougars finished with a strong 16-5 record and clinched the district championship before bowing out in regional action.

Leading the charge this season is senior Alice Hancock, who boasted an impressive .477 batting average with 33 RBIs and 13 extra base hits in the previous season. Hancock, known for her discipline at the plate and strong work ethic, is expected to be a key player for the team.

Joining Hancock is junior Sammy Johnson, who excelled both at the plate and in the circle last season. Johnson posted a .446 batting average with 29 RBIs and 24 runs scored while also serving as the team’s ace pitcher with zero errors defensively.

Sophomore Addie Frusti and freshman Kiera McDonald also return to bolster the Cougars’ lineup, bringing their own set of skills and contributions to the team. Additionally, the team welcomes new faces like sophomore Hope Brunngraeber, who is set to make an impact as the catcher despite it being her first year of high school softball.

With a total of 13 players on the roster, including four talented freshmen, Coach Richard Swajanen is confident that each player will have the opportunity to showcase their skills and gain valuable game experience throughout the season. As the Cougars prepare to hit the field, excitement is building for what promises to be an exciting and competitive 2024 softball season.
