Extreme heat in Thailand is taking a toll on the tourism industry, with the scorching temperatures discouraging visitors from engaging in outdoor activities. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has shifted its focus to promoting early morning and evening tourism to combat the decline in tourist numbers.

The CEO of Siam Amazing Park, a popular water park in Thailand, reported a 5-10% drop in visitors due to the extreme heat. This decrease in foot traffic has also led to a 10% fall in customer spending, attributed to increased living costs and lower economic confidence.

Wuthichai Luangamornlert, the CEO, noted a shift in local tourist habits, with many opting to visit air-conditioned shopping centers instead of outdoor attractions. The rising temperatures have also caused a 10-20% increase in the tourism industry’s costs, mainly due to energy and labor expenses.

In response to the ongoing heatwave, TAT’s Deputy Governor for Domestic Marketing, Somradee Chitchong, announced plans to promote morning, evening, and nighttime activities such as running, boat paddling, and stargazing. These efforts aim to boost income for local businesses affected by the weather-related losses.

Additionally, TAT plans to revitalize the tourist market in Northern and North-Eastern Thailand during the rainy season to make up for losses caused by the lingering PM2.5 toxic haze. By adapting to the challenges posed by the extreme heat, TAT hopes to attract more visitors and support the tourism industry in Thailand.
