ST Engineering Secures $175m Contracts to Modernize Singapore’s Public Bus Fleet

Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded ST Engineering’s Urban Solutions business with contracts totaling over $175m to modernize the city-state’s public bus fleet and operations. The upgrades will cover approximately 5,800 public buses and are set to be completed by 2027.

The scope of the contracts includes technology upgrades for the fleet management system, fare collection, as well as power and communications systems. These upgrades are aimed at improving operational efficiencies for LTA and public transport operators (PTOs), ultimately enhancing the service and travel experience for bus commuters.

One of the key highlights of the modernization project is the implementation of a new Bus Fleet Management System (BFMS) that will utilize advanced technology to enhance centralised fleet monitoring and management of bus service operations island-wide. This system will aid incident management decision-making and provide real-time information to PTOs to better manage bus service reliability and capacity provision.

Additionally, new fare collection equipment onboard buses will be upgraded to leverage the benefits of a 5G network, enabling faster fare transactions for commuters. The integration of fare collection and fleet management applications into a single unified display will improve operational efficiency and allow bus captains to focus more on road safety.

ST Engineering’s President of Urban Solutions, Chew Men Leong, expressed confidence in the company’s ability to deliver on this infrastructure modernization initiative. The technology upgrades are expected to not only benefit commuters and the transport ecosystem but also pave the way for future innovations in commuter travel.

ST Engineering Urban Solutions has a proven track record in major transportation projects and has been the technology provider for Singapore’s bus fleet management system since 2014. These contracts further solidify the company’s position as a leading provider of integrated Smart Mobility solutions worldwide.
