Shohei Ohtani’s Stellar Performance Leads Dodgers to Sweep Braves
In a dominating display of power hitting, Shohei Ohtani led the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 5-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Sunday afternoon, completing a three-game series sweep. Ohtani went 4 for 4 at the plate, smashing two home runs and tying a career-high with four hits in the game.
The first of Ohtani’s home runs came in the first inning when he launched a hanging curveball from Braves starter Max Fried 412 feet over the center field fence for a two-run shot. He followed up with a pair of singles in the third and sixth innings before crushing a 464-foot blast off reliever A.J. Minter in the eighth inning.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts praised Ohtani’s performance, stating, “He just keeps doing things that we just hadn’t seen before. That’s deep. People don’t hit the ball out there, whether you’re left-handed or right-handed.”
Teoscar Hernandez also contributed to the Dodgers’ offense with a two-run homer, while pitcher James Paxton delivered a strong performance on the mound, taking a shutout into the seventh inning.
The Braves, on the other hand, struggled to generate offense, scoring three runs or less in six of their last eight games. Manager Brian Snitker acknowledged the team’s offensive struggles, saying, “We’re in a little bit of an offensive rut, that’s all there is to it.”
With the win, the Dodgers improved to 4-0 on the season, while Ohtani now leads the major leagues with 10 home runs. The team will look to continue their winning streak in the upcoming series against Miami, with RHP Walker Buehler set to make his first start since June 2022.
