The East Haven girls’ tennis team is making waves this spring with a new mentor and a mix of experienced players and talented newcomers. Under the guidance of Head Coach Ellyn DiVerniero, the Yellowjackets have shown significant improvement from last season.

After finishing with a 9-12 record in the regular season, East Haven secured a spot in the Class L State Tournament as the No. 21 seed. Although they fell to No. 12 seed Windsor in the qualifying round, the team’s performance was commendable.

Seniors Melania Korenovsky and Alyson Alberino are leading the squad as captains, with junior Dolores Robles making a strong impact in the top singles spot. Korenovsky and Alberino’s positive attitude and leadership have been instrumental in guiding the team through wins and losses.

Coach DiVerniero praised the team’s dedication and hard work in rebuilding and developing their skills. Despite facing challenges, the players have shown remarkable progress and resilience on the court.

The roster for the 2024 season includes a mix of seniors, juniors, sophomores, and freshmen, all working together to achieve success. With a focus on building a positive team culture and improving their skills, the Yellowjackets are poised for a bright future in girls’ tennis.

As the season progresses, East Haven will continue to strive for excellence and growth, both on and off the court. With a strong foundation in place, the team is ready to take on any challenges that come their way.
