Jack Dorsey, the co-founder and former CEO of X/Twitter, has made headlines once again as he announced his departure from the board of Bluesky, a decentralized social media network he helped create. Dorsey, who resigned from Twitter in 2021, has been a key figure in the development of Bluesky since its inception as a research project within Twitter in 2019.
Bluesky officially became its own platform in 2022 with the goal of creating a common operating standard for social media platforms. Dorsey’s decision to leave the board was confirmed through a simple tweet saying “no” in response to a question about his board membership.
In a statement posted on Bluesky’s website, the company thanked Dorsey for his contributions to funding and initiating the project. They also expressed their commitment to finding a new board member who shares their vision of empowering users to control their social media experience.
In addition to his departure from Bluesky, Dorsey made waves on social media by reportedly unfollowing over 2,000 people and weighing in on government surveillance. He now follows just three people on X, including Elon Musk, Edward Snowden, and Stella Assange.
This latest development comes amidst ongoing scrutiny of Dorsey’s other ventures, including the fintech conglomerate Block, which is currently under investigation by the Department of Justice. Despite these challenges, Dorsey remains a prominent figure in the tech industry, with his actions and statements continuing to make waves in the digital world.
