BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — The search for a new member of the state Board of Higher Education is underway, with 10 North Dakotans vying for the position set to open on July 1.
Among the candidates are Autumn Bennett, a middle/high school music and math teacher from Walhalla, Donald Campbell, Vice President/Chief Human Resources Officer at Sanford Health in Mandan, and Alan Goos, an electrician from West Fargo.
Other candidates include Kari Cutting, a consultant and former vice president of the North Dakota Petroleum Council, Nadine Hagen, a speech language pathologist from Turtle Lake, and Christie Jaeger, a farmer and rancher from Esmond.
The governor appoints the eight voting members of the Board of Higher Education, with State School Superintendent Kirsten Baesler leading the nominating committee that screens candidates for the board.
The position carries a four-year term beginning on July 1, with members limited to serving no more than two consecutive terms. The new appointee will succeed John Warford, the current vice chairman of the SBHE, who declined to seek reappointment.
The nominating committee, which includes State Sen. Ron Sorvaag, State Rep. Dennis Johnson, Supreme Court Chief Justice Jon Jensen, and Nick Archuleta, president of North Dakota United, is set to meet on May 8 to discuss the applications and suggest finalists to Gov. Doug Burgum for the final appointments.
