Holtville Celebrates National Bike and Roll to School Day with “Star Wars” Theme
HOLTVILLE — The streets of Holtville were filled with excitement as students from Emmett S. Finley Elementary School participated in National Bike and Roll to School Day on Friday, May 3. Led by the Mandolorian, also known as Holtville Fire Chief Alex Silva, the children walked, rode bikes, scooters, and rollerblades to promote healthier habits.
The event, which is part of a nationwide initiative, saw students and adults alike donning their favorite “Star Wars” T-shirts, hats, and Grogu gear in celebration of “Star Wars” Day (May the Fourth). Chief Silva, who has been organizing the event for several years, explained that the decision to make it “Star Wars” themed was a nod to his love for the franchise.
The Imperial County Sheriff Department was on hand to ensure the safety of the participants, with deputies blocking cross-street traffic during the ride. Silva’s fire crew also provided supervision and encouragement to the children as they made their way to school.
The morning began with a group warm-up led by Chief Silva, with students stretching and preparing for the ride ahead. Parents, siblings, and school staff gathered to support the event, emphasizing the importance of physical activity and safety.
Emmett S. Finley Elementary School Principal, Marco Page, highlighted the event as a health initiative aimed at promoting wellness among students. The school had been promoting the event in the weeks leading up to it, distributing flyers and sharing information on social media.
Overall, the National Bike and Roll to School Day in Holtville was a fun and engaging way for students to start their day, promoting a healthy and active lifestyle for the youth in the community.
