Maddi Rutan, a freshman from Columbus North, has been making waves in the ASUN Conference with her outstanding performance on the softball field. Rutan was recently named the ASUN Pitcher of the Year and Freshman of the Year, in addition to being named first-team All-ASUN and making the Academic All-SUN team.
Rutan’s impressive stats speak for themselves – she went 23-4 with a 1.93 ERA and 144 strikeouts, with a remarkable 12-1 record, 1.63 ERA, and 81 strikeouts in conference play. In a recent game against Lipscomb, Rutan threw a five-hitter with nine strikeouts to secure her 23rd win of the season. She also contributed offensively, going 1 for 2 with two RBIs in a 7-2 win and hitting two home runs with three RBIs in a 4-1 victory.
The Eastern Kentucky Colonels, with a record of 40-8 (21-3), are the top seeds for the upcoming ASUN Tournament in Oxford, Alabama. Rutan’s stellar performance has been instrumental in the team’s success this season.
