The Los Angeles Angels dominated the Pittsburgh Pirates in a 9-0 victory on Tuesday night, thanks to a stellar performance by Kevin Pillar. Pillar smashed two home runs and drove in six runs, leading the Angels to a much-needed win after a series of losses.
Patrick Sandoval pitched a gem for the Angels, striking out seven batters in seven innings and allowing only three hits. Pillar’s first home run came in the fourth inning, a three-run shot that put the Angels ahead for good. He followed it up with another solo homer in the seventh inning off Roansy Contreras.
Pillar, who signed with the Angels at the end of April, has been a valuable addition to the team, especially with star player Mike Trout sidelined due to injury. The 35-year-old outfielder’s performance on Tuesday showcased his experience and skill, providing a much-needed offensive boost for the Angels.
The Pirates, on the other hand, struggled to generate any offense against Sandoval and the Angels’ pitching staff. Starter Quinn Priester was charged with five runs in 4 2/3 innings, continuing the team’s offensive woes when he’s on the mound.
The Angels will look to continue their winning ways in the series finale, with right-hander Jose Soriano set to face off against Pirates lefty MartÃn Pérez. With Pillar leading the charge, the Angels will aim to secure another victory and build momentum for the rest of the season.
