Renowned Kenyan lawyer and Pan-Africanism activist, Prof. Patrick Loch Otieno Lumumba, is set to deliver a powerful speech at the African Regional Group meeting and International Conference in Monrovia today, May 7, 2024. Born on July 17, 1962, Prof. Lumumba is the director of the Kenyan School of Law and previously served as the director of the Kenyan Anti-corruption Commission.

The conference, hosted by the National Association of Trial Judges of Liberia, is themed “The Judiciary in contemporary times dispensing Justice in the new information age” and is expected to conclude on May 10, 2024. Notable personalities attending the event include Vice President Jeremiah K. Koung, Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene Yuoh, and Ghana’s Chief Justice.

Prof. Lumumba, known for his advocacy of African solutions to African problems, draws inspiration from leaders like Kwame Nkrumah, Patrice Lumumba, and Thomas Sankara. His impassioned speeches have addressed issues such as governance, youth migration, and economic hardships in Africa.

In a previous address at the PAVA Forum, Lumumba expressed concerns about the energy crisis and youth fleeing the continent due to economic hardships and poor governance. He urged African leaders to take bold steps to change the fortunes of the continent.

In 2017, Lumumba’s speech at The Fearless Conference in Kenya emphasized the importance of making courageous choices, while his keynote address at the Economic Freedom Fighters’ anniversary in 2023 sparked controversy over his views on homosexuality. Despite differing opinions, Prof. Lumumba continues to be a prominent voice in advocating for a better Africa.
