Priority Health Partners with National Fitness Campaign to Build Fitness Courts in Michigan
Less than 25% of American adults get enough exercise, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Regular physical activity is crucial for preventing and managing various physical conditions, as well as improving mental health and overall well-being. Recognizing the importance of physical, mental, and social health benefits, Priority Health, a nonprofit health benefits company, has partnered with the National Fitness Campaign to build Priority Health Fitness Courts® in Michigan.
These free outdoor exercise facilities are designed to provide a full-body workout without the need for weights. The Fitness Courts offer a range of benefits beyond just physical health. Exercise has been shown to release endorphins, improve mood, reduce stress, depression, and anxiety, and enhance sleep quality. Additionally, exposure to fresh air, sunshine, and Vitamin D can further boost mood and strengthen the immune system.
The Fitness Courts are not just a gym alternative; they also promote social connections and community engagement. Exercising with family or friends can increase motivation, provide support, and foster relationships. By locating the Fitness Courts within existing city parks, Priority Health is creating community gathering places that support connectedness and build stronger communities.
Since 2019, 20 Fitness Courts have been built across Michigan, with plans to reach one-third of communities in the state by the end of 2025. Priority Health is committed to improving the health and lives of Michigan residents and giving back to the community.
