ASUS has announced that it will launch the ROG Ally X hand-held gaming console on June 2. The new model will feature a new design and a substantially larger battery pack compared to the current model. The Taiwanese electronics maker confirmed that the ROG Ally X will be based on the Windows 11 platform and powered by the AMD Z1 Extreme chipset.

The gaming console will come with a 7-inch LCD display with a 120Hz refresh rate and will be available in black color. ASUS revealed these details in an interview with The Verge, a US-based consumer technology news platform.

ASUS senior vice president, Shawn Yen, mentioned in the interview that the ROG Ally X will have a significantly larger battery pack than its predecessor. This upgrade was the most requested feature by the community. The company has also added more ports for increased connectivity options on the new model.

While specific specifications were not confirmed, The Verge reported that the ROG Ally X is expected to have more than 16GB of RAM, surpassing the current generation models. Additionally, the handheld gaming console will feature a longer M.2 2280 SSD slot for larger SSD upgrades.

ASUS senior product manager, Gabriel Meng, expressed the company’s commitment to the Windows platform for the handheld gaming console. However, he mentioned that they are open to exploring other solutions and have had discussions with Valve, the makers of the Steam Deck handheld gaming console.

The improvements on the ASUS ROG Ally X are expected to increase the cost of the device, but ASUS believes that the enhancements will provide a better gaming experience for users.
