Alabama Ranks as 7th Worst State in U.S. According to U.S. News Study

Alabama has found itself at the bottom of the rankings when compared to other states in the U.S., according to the annual study published by U.S. News. The study examined 71 key metrics across eight categories, including crime, education, health care, and infrastructure, and Alabama ranked as the nation’s 7th worst state.

In the study, each state was evaluated based on data from recent national surveys that asked nearly 70,000 people to prioritize each subject in their state. Alabama only finished in the top half of states in one category — fiscal stability, where it ranked 19th. Researchers evaluated the state’s ability to meet its fiscal obligations and secure a stable economic future.

Across the other seven categories, Alabama ranked as follows:
– Crime & Corrections: 28th
– Economy: 32nd
– Education: 45th
– Health care: 44th
– Infrastructure: 36th
– Natural environment: 47th
– Opportunity: 31st

While Alabama did not perform well in the rankings, it did fare better than some of its neighboring states. Louisiana ranked as the worst state in the U.S., while Mississippi ranked 48th. On the other hand, Florida was the only southern state to crack the top 10, ranking 9th.

Overall, Utah was named the best state in the U.S., followed by New Hampshire, Nebraska, Minnesota, Idaho, Iowa, Vermont, Washington, Florida, and Massachusetts. The full study can be found on the U.S. News website.
