In the latest round of negotiations between IATSE West Coast Locals and major Hollywood studios and streamers, important issues such as AI, wages, working conditions, subcontracting, and contract language were discussed. The union reported to its members that talks have been progressing effectively so far, with both parties engaging constructively.

Union president Matthew Loeb emphasized the need for contracts to keep pace with the rapidly evolving entertainment industry, stating that previous agreements may no longer be suitable for members. The talks have been described as more productive than last year’s negotiations, which almost led to a strike but ended with a controversial last-minute deal.

Discussions will continue for West Coast Locals until May 16, after which the focus will shift to bargaining the Area Standards Agreement. This agreement will cover similar issues, including AI, wage increases, working conditions, pension and health contributions, and job security. Both the Basic Agreement and Area Standards Agreement are set to expire on July 31.

The union’s efforts to address these crucial issues and ensure fair working conditions for its members are ongoing. As negotiations continue, the industry will be closely watching for any developments that could impact the future of film and television production in Hollywood.
