A groundbreaking solar technology for water purification and storage has been introduced in Uasin Gishu County, promising to revolutionize access to clean drinking water for households. The innovative SAWA can, developed by 4Life Solutions, harnesses solar heat to eliminate disease-causing microorganisms in water, providing a safe and sustainable solution for communities.
During the launch event in Uasin Gishu, Mrs. Rahab Mwikali Muiu, the National Chairperson of Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organisation (MYWO), emphasized the urgent need for improved water access in Kenya. With millions of people worldwide succumbing to waterborne diseases each year, the SAWA can offers a ray of hope in combating this public health crisis.
MYWO, in collaboration with Equity Bank, has embarked on a national water harvesting project to empower women at the grassroots level. By providing affordable loans for water tanks, the initiative aims to enhance water storage capacity and promote health, sanitation, and agricultural practices among women in Kenya.
Furthermore, MYWO is spearheading efforts to educate women on financial literacy and entrepreneurship, empowering them to leverage the clean energy purification solution for economic gain. Solomon Muigai Kamau, the commercial partnership sales Director of 4Life Solutions, highlighted the potential for women to generate income through peer-to-peer sales of the SAWA can within their communities.
With its ability to purify 6 liters of water in just 4 hours of sunlight exposure, the SAWA can represents a game-changer in the quest for safe drinking water.
