The apes are dominating the box office with “The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” raking in over $50 million on its opening weekend. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie made $22 million on Friday alone, with projections of reaching between $52 million and $56 million domestically by Monday.

Producers of the film have even more reason to celebrate as the “Planet of the Apes” movies have a history of international success. With some projections putting the total haul at $80 million when factoring in worldwide gross, the film’s $160 million production cost seems like a wise investment.

Just last month, actors took to Venice Beach on horseback in full costume to promote the new movie, showcasing the dedication and creativity behind the franchise. “Kingdom” is the fourth installment in the reboot franchise, following 2017’s “Battle for the Planet of the Apes,” and is set 300 years after the events of the last film.

Starring Owen Teague, Freya Allen, William H. Macy, and Kevin Durand, the film has also received critical acclaim, boasting an impressive 80% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In summary, “Apes” has truly made the box office its domain, swinging to new heights of success.
