Keweenaw Roller Derby Celebrates 10 Years of Action

CALUMET — Keweenaw Roller Derby (KRD) is marking a decade of derby excitement this year and they want you to be a part of the celebration. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, flat-track roller derby team in the Copper Country, KRD welcomes individuals over 18 years old who are ready to work hard and have fun, regardless of their shape, size, orientation, or athletic ability.

Whether you’re interested in volunteering, supporting the bout as a non-skating official, refereeing, or actually skating on the track, there’s a place for everyone at KRD. You can catch them in action at their home bouts at the Calumet Colosseum on May 25, June 22, July 13, and August 31. Tickets are only $5 at the door, with free admission for kids under 10. The doors open at 5 p.m. and the first whistle blows at 6 p.m.

If you’re interested in joining the team, KRD will be starting a new skater program in July, with an information session scheduled for June 20 at 7 p.m. at the Colosseum. All skill levels are welcome, and the team will provide gear and explain all the rules of derby to make you feel at home.

For those looking to support KRD in other ways, they are always in need of volunteers for bouts. If you’re interested in helping out, you can reach out to the board at board@keweenawrollerderby.com.

Additionally, KRD has a variety of sponsorship opportunities available for businesses looking to support their Decade of Derby season. To learn more about how you can get involved, visit https://keweenawrollerderby.com/sponsor-us/.
