The Naples Daily News Athlete of the Week poll is back for the final round of the school year, and the competition is heating up. Each week, the Naples Daily News staff selects standout athletes from various high school sports in Collier County, and readers get to vote for their favorite to determine the winner.

Last week, Barron Collier tennis player Chelsea Casapu took home the title with an impressive 50.1% of the votes. This week, a new group of talented athletes is vying for the top spot.

In the baseball category, Trevor Nikolis from St. John Neumann and Brandon Garcia from Naples are in the running. Nikolis pitched a stellar game, allowing just 2 hits and 1 earned run, while Garcia drove in a pair of runs to help his team advance in the regional quarterfinals.

On the softball field, Caroline Porter from Seacrest Country Day and Sheila Forbes from Barron Collier are up for the title. Porter played a crucial role in her team’s win, both on the mound and at the plate, while Forbes contributed with a solid performance in the regional quarterfinals.

In boys lacrosse, Cal Wyatt and Michael Slusar from Community School are contenders after their standout performances in the state semifinals and championship game.

The competition is fierce, and the winner will receive a shirt courtesy of BSN Sports. Don’t forget to cast your vote and stay tuned to find out who will be crowned the next Naples Daily News Athlete of the Week.
