Jesse Marsch Named Coach of Canadian Men’s Soccer Team
In a groundbreaking move, American coach Jesse Marsch has been appointed as the head coach of the Canadian men’s soccer team. Marsch, who has an impressive coaching resume that includes stints in top leagues such as the Premier League, Bundesliga, and Major League Soccer, takes over immediately with a contract that runs through July 2026 — coinciding with Canada’s joint hosting of the World Cup with Mexico and the United States.
Canada Soccer announced Marsch’s hiring, highlighting his managerial record of 170-66-103. Kevin Blue, Canada Soccer’s CEO and general secretary, praised Marsch as a “transformational leader” who will drive progress for the national team and Canadian soccer as a whole.
The Canadian men have been without a permanent coach since John Herdman stepped down last August. Assistant coach Mauro Biello has been serving as interim coach, but Marsch’s appointment marks a new era for the team.
Marsch’s hiring was made possible by major philanthropic contributions from the owners of Canadian-based MLS clubs, as well as other private donors. In recognition of this support, Marsch’s position will be formally titled as the MLS Canada Men’s National Team Head Coach during his initial contract.
